Cordova Airport has announced that its controversial 1,380m runway will start to operate with regular flights in April 2008. TAER Andalus, a private company resulting from the merger between the Cordovan company Transportes Aereos Espejo and Pan Air, will be the new carrier.
At the beginning of the month, TAER Andalus announced that it would start to operate with two aircraft, one connecting Cordova with Barcelona, Valencia, the Baleares, the Canaries, Cantabria and Morocco, and other, coming into service in June 2008, connecting the city with France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy. Moreover, the company estimates that it will carry more than 230,000 passengers in the first year of operations, with a turnover of 18.5 million euros.
According to Ramon Pina, president of the Cordova Convention Bureau, this initiative is very important for the city, since it will boost the local event industry and tourism in general.
