The aim of the recently opened Buenas Aires Convention Bureau, which already has 40 members, including airlines, event planners and tradeshow centres, is to position the city as a MICE destination, strengthening its cultural, artistic, sports and gastronomic assets.
Attracting events and planning the international promotion of the city are the new bureau’s two short-term priorities, as well as implementing the satellite account for business tourism. To this end, the bureau will rely on the knowledge and experience of several tourist enterprises and communication, marketing and event organisation agencies.
To date this year, the Buenas Aires Convention Bureau has participated in 23 international promotional missions – 15 in Europe and eight in America – and is planning to attend 27 international events in 18 markets before the end of the year.
According to figures of ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association), Latin America is the destination of 8% of the world’s events, ranking in fourth place behind Europe (57%), Asia (19%) and North America (11%).
Argentina occupies the 36th position as an event destination, the world ranking being lead by USA, Germany and Spain. As to cities, Buenas Aires is ranked 32nd in the world.
