Our blog now includes a new section full of mystery, addressing the most stunning legends of the city of Granada. The first of these is set in the Alhambra.
A student of the University of Salamanca spent his summers travelling to different cities, playing his guitar to make some money and thus pay for his studies.
On one of these trips, he visited the city of Granada, and according to the legend, during a walk he met a soldier with armour and a spear, a soldier from a previous era.
When the student asked him who he was, the soldier told him he had been wandering for 300 years due to a curse that forced him to protect and guard the treasure of King Boabdil for all eternity, adding that he could only leave the treasure once every 100 years.
The soldier asked the student for help in order to break the curse, for which he needed a Christian girl and a fasting priest. The former was not difficult to find, but the only priest he was able to find was an obese one who loved to eat, so only with the promise of wealth did he accept to help him.
That night, all three of them returned to the hideout where the soldier was to break the spell.
However, during the ritual the priest was unable to fulfil his promise and his greed made him pounce on the food they had prepared for later. The spell could not be broken, and the soldier was not freed from the curse.
Today, according to the people of Granada, the Enchanted Soldier of the Alhambra is still guarding the treasure of the King Boabdil.
