Next winter, the five-star La Bobadilla in Loja (Granada), belonging to Barcelo Hotels & Resorts, will be installing a novel heating and hot water system using olive stones as fuel. This initiative will allow the hotel to reduce its annual CO2 emissions by 80%.

The installation of this automatic system, which comprises a 400kW and a 300kW boiler, will cost 261,000 euros – redeemable in three years – and save 500,000 euros over 10 years, compared with the existing system that runs on propane. The Andalusian Energy Agency will subsidise 51% of the total cost.
