More than 150,000W of sound, six giant outdoor LED screens, 7,000m of cabling and over 35 technicians made the Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the Almudena and El Escorial possible.
The organizers of the World Youth Day commissioned AV Medios, a company specializing in AV and multimedia solutions for all kind of events, to handle the technical side of the events held at the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo del El Escorial and the Cathedral of the Almudena on 19 and 20 of August 2011, respectively, during Pope Benedict XVI's recent visit to Madrid.
AV Medios installed outdoor sound systems and LED screens so that the general public could follow the proceedings both inside and outside the two basilicas.
For His Holliness Pope Benedict XVI's encounter with over 1,600 young nuns in the Kings' Patio of the Monastery of El Escorial, AV Medios installed a sound system. The audio signal was transmitted to Telemadrid and the international TV channel. In the same venue, the company also installed a 4x2.25m Barco LED on a Layher support, alongside the basilica, where the event was broadcasted.
Inside the Monastery of El Escorial, the Pope met with 1,000 young university lecturers. On this occasion, AV Medios installed six 50" plasma screens for the live broadcasting of the event, allowing those located the farthest from the altar to follow the proceedings, as well as what was going on outside the basilica.

AV Medios installed two 7.2x4.5m Barco LED screens and a 4,5x3m LED screen, mounted 2.5m from the ground on Layher supports, in the monastery's vestibule so as to allow those present to follow the event. In addition, the company installed a powerful sound system to cover the whole of the large esplanade, with five line array towers, distributed in the vestibule, totalling 120,000W of sound.
At the Catherdral of the Almudena, where the Pope met with 4,500 seminarians from all over the world, AV Medios installed two 5x2.5m Barco LED screens in 16:9 format, suspended 2m from the ground on two large supports, located on each side of the basilica's main entrance. The company also assembled four Nexo line array towers, each with eight speakers, totalling more than 32,000W of sound, thus allowing full coverage of the cathedral's esplanade.
Thanks to the work of AV Medios team of professionals, together with six months of planning with the organizers of the World Youth Day Madrid 2011, the event was a resounding success.
