Asia-Pacific MICE industry
As things stand at the moment, Singapore is the hottest Asian MICE destination, followed closely by Japan and South Korea. Nonetheless, emerging destination include Hong Kong, Taiwan, India and Malaysia, which are all jostling for positions in this lucrative market.
Over the last six years, the MICE market in Asia has grown by 133%, compared with a global market growth rate of 19.9%. Asia is now the hub for hosting all types of events, be they large or small. There is no disputing the fact that the Asian MICE industry is currently experiencing a period of enormous expansion and growth, and regional competition has only just begun.
The Taiwanese government has invested heavily in the MICE industry, including US$680 million in the building of major exhibition centres. While Malaysia has a huge business tourism potential, given its strategic location on the trade routes between India and China and other countries and regions in Asia and Europe.
