The Spanish Tourist Board has recently invited a group of American travel agents belonging to the Alliance of Westchester Travel Agencies (AWTA) on an inspection trip to the Costa del Sol.
Two-day programme
During the two-day programme, the 10 travel agents visited different five-star hotels on the Costa del Sol, as well as the localities of Ronda, Malaga, including a visit to the Picasso Museum, and Estepona, where they spent the night.
Recuperation of the American market
Everything indicates that the American market is gradually recovering from the 11 September attacks. In 2005, tourists coming from the States represented 1.65% of the total overnight stays registered on the Costa del Sol.
Spain is fashionable again
According to the Spanish Tourist Board, Spain has become fashionable again for various factors including, among others, the climate, the cuisine, the culture, street safety and the professionalism of the service sector. With regard to the meeting industry, people are showing a renewed interest in Spain, chiefly for incentive travel.
