American community in Catalonia votes at DosTrece Restaurant-Lounge

Over 100 voters supporting the American Democratic Party converged on the authorized voting station installed by volunteers of the Barcelona section of Democrats Abroad from Spain, to cast their ballot in the presidential primaries of the party led by President Barack Obama.

With the ex-First Lady Hillary Clinton and the Senator for Vermont Bernie Sanders competing in the Democratic primary to become the party’s official candidate in the coming November elections, the day went off without a hitch, thus twinning the American and Catalan democratic cultures.

The Barcelona-based organization Democrats Abroad from Spain led by Anuradha Ghemawat, a party member and resident in Barcelona for over 10 years, had already organized a first ballot at the ESERP Business School del Carrer Girona on 1 March, which was followed by that held at the DosTrece Restaurant-Lounge, this being the last opportunity for Democrat voters residing in Catalonia to make their voice heard.

Also serving as a meeting point for the North American community living in Barcelona, who had the chance to savour DosTrece’s delicious brunches, this venue proved to be ideal for the event: two comfortably appointed floors, with bars on both of them, projectors, rooms with heating/air conditioning, daises, a high-fidelity sound system, security staff, and a professional team of waiters and polyglot PR staff.

Ghemawat was delighted with the celebration of these Democratic primaries in Barcelona: “This restaurant, with its function room, is ideal for any type of event. We will soon be collaborating with DosTrece again, but it’s a surprise.”
