The King and Queen of Spain were the guests of honour at yesterday’s opening of the 2nd World Congress of News Agencies, organised by EFE at Estepona’s Congress and Trade Show Centre. A hundred and forty new agencies from 110 countries, including Reuters, France Press, Associated Press, United Press, EFE, ITA-TASS, Xinhua News Agency and BBC News, to name but a few, will be participating in the congress until 27 October 2007.
Background
The first edition of the World Congress of News Agencies ("Information: Challenge XXI"), organized by ITAR-TASS, was held at the Moscow World Trade Centre from 24-25 September 2004, bringing together 118 news agencies from more than 100 countries. The first meeting of the News Agencies World Council (NAWC), which was founded during the congress, took place in Amman (Jordan) from 12-13 November 2005.
