2011 Season Launch Party and Worldwide Unveiling of Mono

The RS Academy launched the 2011 track season on 28 January, during a great party at the famous Puente Romano Hotel in Marbella.

This party was the opportunity for club members, petrol heads and press people to meet and talk about what 2011 would bring them in terms of exciting cars and new track experiences. The highlight of the party was the expected news of the addition to the club fleet of several brand new "Mono" single seater cars (which can be road registered) of which photos were unveiled for the very first time worldwide during the party. Guests could also admire the Ferrari F430 Challenge, the Caterham Superlight 500, the Porsche GT3 RS and one of the four Ascari KZ1 GT3 built in the world, the car that won the 2009 GT3 championship in the UK.

29/01/2011:

The first club days of the year started the very next morning at the Ascari Race resort in Ronda, where club members, adrenaline seekers and petrol heads, as well as press and media representatives, had the chance to drive the club fleet or experience extreme hot laps on the circuit with professional racing drivers at the wheel.

The day was freezing and the sun very rare, but the atmosphere at the circuit was amazing and made really exciting by the huge number of different cars available in the paddocks. The noise of the engines was unbelievable, and the diversity of cars impressive (from 60s old timers to the most recent racing machines, including F1s).

This exhilarating day ended at the Puente Romano hotel for the official presentation of the Mono single seater car (first one built worldwide). It was around 10pm when the car arrived at the hotel to be presented to the guests. No one could believe it; the Mono was there, shining in front of us all.

The Mono: it's a single seater constructed like a F1 car, with a carbon fibre monocoque tub chassis, valued at £70,000, powered by a rear mounted 2lt COSWORTH DURATEC engine (four cylinders in line) delivering over 265bhp (at 8500rpm) via a Hewland sequential gear box (535bhp per tonne). Weighing in at under 490kg, the performance is fantastic with a 0 to 100km/h in under three seconds and a top speed of 170mph (274km/h).

Another element that makes the Mono so unique is the fact that, even if it's an extraordinary racing car, it can also be road registered. No other single seater in the world can compete with these characteristics, futuristic curves and immense possibilities.

The club has already purchased two Mono's, with an option for a further two constructed by BAC's team of engineers in the UK.

30/01/2011:

On the Sunday morning, the Mono joined the RS Academy fleet at Ascari race resort, where it was admired by all present on the track, and photographed by the press yet again but this time on the track. Even Klaas Zwart, owner of Ascari Race Resort, came over to admire the car and have a word with the BAC engineers who built it and a chat to the RS Academy team.

The day was sunny and warmer. After an amazing buffet lunch, the afternoon proved to be even more exciting thanks to the physical presence of the Mono on the track and to some amazing laps realized by Klaas Zwart in his Formula 1 car.

Club members and hot laps adrenaline seekers spent the day driving or admiring beautiful cars speeding on the longest track in Spain (5.45km). An unforgettable day for anyone, for sure!
