The organization points out that Spain has offered to lead this initiative
The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has made an "urgent" call to the G7 heads of state plus Spain, Australia and South Korea to coordinate to save the tourism sector and the global economy, to which the Spanish government has responded that it wants to lead this initiative.
For the first time, more than 100 presidents and CEOs of the tourism industry from all over the world have signed a WTTC letter, addressed to these governments to urgently establish coordinated global actions in favor of the sector.
Specifically, the WTTC letter was signed by the presidents of entities such as British Airways, Emirates, Iberia, Etihad, Jet2, WestJet and Virgin Atlantic; Accor, Best Western, Hilton, Hyatt, Intercontinental Hotel Group, Mandarin Oriental, Marriott, Meliá Hotels, Palladium Hotel Group, Ifema, Europamundo, Room Hotels & Be Mate, Hotelbeds, Radisson Hotel Group, Iberostar, City Sightseeing Worldwide, Abercrombie & Kent, American Express, Carlson Wagonlit, Expedia, Travelport, TUI AG and Uber, among others.
PCR with results in less than 90 minutes
The call for global coordination focuses primarily on the use of mandatory masks in all modes of transport and enclosed spaces where physical distance cannot be respected; investment in rapid, effective, inexpensive PCR tests with results in less than 90 minutes to be applied in a coordinated manner prior to international travel; quarantine or isolation only for positive cases, not generalized by nationality; and strengthening the implementation of standardized measures to help restore traveler confidence.
The Government of Spain has offered to lead this initiative, according to the WTTC. It has also appointed the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Arancha González, to lead the Spanish contribution.
