The association of organizers of this type of events visits the city to know the future spaces where to hold meetings.
The Tourism Department's commitment to turning Gandia into a destination for congresses, meetings and events known as MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) is bearing fruit. The city has aroused the interest of the Association of Professional Organizers of Congresses and Events of the Comunitat Valenciana (Opcecv) that came on Tuesday to know the capital of Safor.
The members of this regional entity held their annual meeting at the RH Bayren hotel on the beach. After the working session, the technician of the department, Olatz Megía, made known all the spaces available to Gandia to host events and conferences, especially the Espai Baladre. Megia explained that the city "is fully prepared to host congresses" and detailed the services that exist. Also, the commercial director of the RH chain, Pablo Hernandez, explained the details of accommodation, and convention rooms.
The day continued with a visit to the Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València and a lunch at the CDT of l'Alqueria del Duc. In the afternoon they visited the Centre Històric and the Palau Ducal, where they found that the Borja building is an ideal setting for conferences and dinners. Similarly, they were interested in the Teatro Serrano, the Casa de la Marquesa or the Urbalab, nearby spaces where different activities can be held at the same time.
The president of the association, Paloma Maestre, acknowledged at the end of the day that Gandia has "many possibilities" to become a venue for congress tourism. From Opcecv were "pleasantly surprised" after discovering the city and have already asked the Department of Tourism specific information on the size and capacity of certain places to organize in the immediate future congresses of any kind or presentations of brands.
MICE tourism is one of the most important sectors to fight for deseasonalisation, and the municipal department headed by Mayor Diana Morant, as head of Tourism, is involved in this work.
Gandia will also be present next week in a 'workshop' in Zaragoza by the hand of the Europlayas tour operator where they will hold various meetings with some 80 travel agencies, as they did in Madrid last month where they contacted 250 companies. The Tourism area will participate in this event along with the RH chain and the hotel Villa Luz to publicize the city in the Aragonese capital.
