The capital of the Costa del Sol increases by 5% the volume of attendees to these events, which already approach 300 a year
The good air connections, the wide gastronomic offer and the climate have become the aces with which the congress sector certifies each year an increase in activity. 2018 has marked an important milestone: for the first time the city has surpassed 100,000 attendees. The figure of 102,000 attendees at the almost 300 events held over the past year represents a growth of 5% over a historic year such as 2017. This has been explained by the director of the Convention Bureau of Malaga, to highlight the pull of a destination in which conference organizers check edition after edition that the celebration in the capital of the Coast guarantees between 15 and 20% more participants than when they choose another destination. "It is one of our maxims when it comes to getting candidacies," he said. Quereda explained that the segment of congresses generates the city more than one hundred million euros and predicted that during this year will maintain this upward trend. "If we get the same figures as last year is already a success, although we hope to continue winning events and participants in them," he said.
The director of the Convention Bureau highlighted last year's balance sheet the pull the city has experienced in the holding of corporate events, conventions and business meetings. "Until a few years ago we were resisted, but we have noticed a strong increase, which has contributed to the Gran Hotel Miramar, which has opened the destination to new opportunities for top-level events, "he said, to take as an example the convention held a few weeks ago by the car brand Lexus.
For this year, the largest congress will be that of family doctors, which in May will bring together 4,000 doctors in the city. The medical sector has focused on the capital of the Costa del Sol. Precisely, last Thursday, fifty health professionals of all specialties met at the Teatro Cervantes in a meeting with members of public institutions participating in the initiative MalagaCon, which aims to promote the city of Malaga among the medical community as a venue for new congresses and professional meetings. In the ninth edition of this meeting, which was chaired by the mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, accompanied by the councillor for Tourism and Promotion of the City, Maria del Mar Martin Rojo, was valued the potential of Malaga as an ideal destination for events and conferences "for its connectivity, its hotel infrastructure, spaces for holding all types of events and a complementary cultural and gastronomic offer of the first level," said Martin Rojo. The 'MálagaCongresos Contigo' campaign is a joint initiative of the Málaga Convention Bureau and the Costa del Sol Convention Bureau for Tourism and Planning.
