Ultramar Event Management, TUI Travel PLC's Spanish MICE division since 1953, has just announced the appointment of Franck Barbaras to the post of managing director.
Barbaras will work at the company’s central offices in Barcelona, reporting directly to Ian Livesey, Head of Specialist Business at TUI Travel PLC Spain and Andorra.
His main task will be to attract new clients and strengthen relations with the company’s existing client, maximizing MICE sales, ensuring quality business relations and fulfilling established standards, and guaranteeing sustainable value added and the company’s profitability.
Among the projects he will be expected to promote are several recently launched products and tools geared to facilitating the work of Spanish travel managers, namely TUIncentivo and Meet in Color.
Barbaras started his career in Paris, where his work centred on organizing and marketing trade shows. Seven years later, he joined the team at the Conference Centre of Paris (CNIT), where he held the post of assistant business manager.
In 2003, he moved to Barcelona where he was in charge of the business and marketing department of the Congress Centre of Catalonia. After the merger of the centre and the Rey Juan Carlos Hotel in 2005, he became MICE business development manager of both venues until May 2010. Barbaras is one of the founding members of MPI Spain (Meeting Professionals International).
