United Arab Emirates Pavilion by Acciona picks up EXPO 2017 Award

The United Arab Emirates Pavilion has been one of the prizewinners at the Expo 2017 Awards, organized by Exhibitor magazine, which acknowledge the best designs presented during the International Exhibition of Astana which will be held in Kazakhstan until 10 September.

Built by ACCIONA Production and Design (APD), to the design of Ralph Appelbaum Associates, the pavilion has received the Mention of Honour in the ‘Editor’s Choice’ category for its design, technology, innovation and narration in the same space in order to create immersive and didactically attractive experiences for visitors.

APD was commissioned to handle the construction, technical development and assembly of the pavilion’s exhibition area (1000sqm) and the VIP area (650sqm), which shows the country’s advances in renewable energy sources. With a didactic approach, it incorporates cutting-edge multimedia technology resources such as interactive devices and immersive projections which place visitors in the centre of the search for a more sustainable future as regards energy.

The four elements – earth, water, wind, and fire – as well as their dimensions – from the microscopic to the colossal – are the two pivotal points around which the exhibition area revolves so as to highlight the country’s dynamism and advances with regard to renewable energy sources.

Furthermore, the pavilion is equipped with an immersive theatre with a 270º screen that includes floor and ceiling projections to show the past, present and future of energy technology in the UAE.

ACCIONA Productions and Design has also handled the design and construction of the Spanish Pavilion at the Astana EXPO, as well as the two-floor pavilion of Kazakhstan, the host country and nerve centre of the event.
