On 6 February, the passers-by on Torremolino’s Carihuela Beach witnessed an extraordinary event.
At about 2pm, on a sunny practically windless day, they watched as a red carpet was rolled out and an arch adorned with flowers, some seats and a small sound system were set up on the sand, in front of the Playa Miguel restaurant. It was neither for the Virgen del Carmen festival nor for a St John’s Eve celebration… It was for Katharina and Dimitri’s wedding.
Making the most of their trip to Torremolinos to participate in the Rockin’ Race Jamboree (the biggest rock & roll festival in Europe, held on the Costa del Sol), these two young Russians had decided to get married on the beach.
The couple walked down the red carpet to an arch adorned with flowers where a toastmaster from the States officiated an authentically American-style wedding. The young couple pronounced their vows facing the sea; few decorations were necessary, with the sparkling blue Mediterranean in the background.
After the ceremony, organized by Alfombra Roja Event Coordination, cava, sangria and beer was served on the beach to the sound of rock & roll.
This was certainly the first wedding of the year on the beach at Torremolinos, and hopefully not the last in 2012.
