Owing to the success of last year’s edition, the Sol Los Fenicios Hotel and the Javier Vilchez Cooking School will be presenting the second edition of the "International Cuisine Workshops" in the hotel’s function room at 1pm on 23 July 2008.
The courses will be held every Saturday during August at 8pm at the Sol Los Fenicios Hotel. During an hour and a half, Javier Vilchez will show participants how to prepare each one of the dishes on the dinner menu: appetiser, first course, main course and dessert. Afterwards, participants will be able savour the dinner menu at the hotel’s restaurant.
Course themes
- 2 August: summer cooking, creative cuisine using seasonal produce: marrow and goat’s cheese au gratin; tomato salmorejo and avocados with marinated sardines; pork loin rolls with aubergines and almond sauce; watermelon soup with yoghurt foam.
- 9 August: Indian cuisine: onion bhaji; dal salad with mango chutney (aam chatni); tandoori chicken (murg tandoori) with curried rice pilaf (pulao); kela ka raita (cardamom, mint and banana yoghurt relish).
- 16 August: Japanese cuisine II: gyoza (steamed Japanese dumplings); carrot, Japanese radish and tuna tataki salad; Japanese ginger pork with noodles; Tokyo cup.
- 23 August: Greek cuisine II: cucumber and Greek yoghurt cream; dolmades (stuffed vine leaves); island tuna à la Corfú; Karidopita (walnut and honey cake).
- 30 August: aphrodisiac cuisine, a menu for two: celery and walnut cream; avocado, apple and prawn salad; salmon with mustard sauce and marrow, dry fruit and truffle sauce; Aphrodite mousse; all prepared with ingredients that over the centuries have been known for their aphrodisiac qualities.
Prices
Each class with dinner costs €36 (VAT included), excluding drinks, and dinner only €26 (VAT included). Class registration – which is subject to availability (maximum of 20 participants per class) – should be made at the hotel or by telephone (+34 958 827 900).
About Javier Vilchez
A qualified nutritional therapist and dietitian with a broad experience in the restaurant sector, Javier Vilchez is currently the director of the Javier Vilchez School of Cooking and Diet Consultancy in Granada, as well as giving cooking classes to professionals and amateurs, covering all types of cuisine from traditional and international cooking to modern, dietetic and therapy cooking for different complaints. In addition, he contributes recipes to the monthly magazine Simona and collaborates with the TV programme “Edad de Oro” (Canal 21 La Opinion). Likewise, he has his own programme dedicated to cooking and dietetic advice.
