Ultramar Event Management, the leader in the Spanish MICE market, recently organized a showcasing event for the Chinese city of Hanzhou – "the most sumptuous and elegant city in the world" (Marco Polo) – which was held at the ME Hotel in Barcelona on 21 April.

For the organization of the event, Ultramar Event Management had the support of TUI China, a company belonging to TUI Travel PLC, the leader in world tourism.

Led by the city’s mayor, Zhang Jianting, the Hangzhou delegation’s 30 members stayed six days in Spain, during which they met with representatives of the Spanish tourism industry with aim of showcasing their city.

Capital of the province of Zhejiang, Hangzhou is located on the banks of the River Qiantang, bodering on West Lake (Xi Hu), at the southern end of the Grand Canal. This beautiful city was described by the explorer Marco Polo at the end of the 13th century as “the most sumptuous and elegant city in the world”. The city’s traditional economic activities are based on silk and the textile industry, although the electronic industry has experienced an important growth over the last few years. Hangzhou has also become one of the most popular tourist destinations in China.
